The standard specifies several methods for preparing laboratory samples of fibres, yarns or fabrics and presents a limited treatment of the problem of drawing specimens for testing. No single technique of sampling can be devised that will serve in all circumstances. Adequate sampling for acceptance testing requires taking into account not only the variability between the laboratory samples, but also the variability between the laboratory test samples and between the test specimens. The selection of length-biased samples is not within the scope of this standard.
