General

This standard presents guidelines for establishing minimum requirements to ensure proper application and performance of plant-applied polyolefin resin coating systems extruded over soft adhesives for external surfaces of pipe.

The function of the coating system is to prevent corrosion by separating the pipe from its environment when used in conjunction with cathodic protection. The coating system is used in the oil, gas, and waterworks industries where generally moderate operating temperatures are attained and good handling capabilities are required.

This standard describes methods for qualifying and controlling the quality of the extruded polyolefin resin coating systems, provides guidelines for proper application, and identifies inspection and repair techniques to ensure long-term coating system performance.
