scope:
This technical code applies to the endurance strength design and assessment of arc welded joints of steel employed in rail-vehicle construction. It is intended for welded constructions with a sheet thickness of ≥ 2 mm and also for some types of joint with a sheet thickness of ≥ 1.5 mm.
The direct allocation of endurance strength and weld performance class, and of endurance strength and safety category undertaken in this technical code, with supplements on the classifi cation of different safety requirements, satisfi es the requirements in tables 1 and 2 of DIN EN 15085-3 on the determination of the defi nitive weld performance class. Only weld performance classes CP A, CP B, CP C1 and CP C2 according to DIN EN 15085-3 can be considered for vibrating stress. If the weld performance class is determined in accordance with this technical code, taking into consideration all the specifi cations contained herein, table 2 of DIN EN 15085-3 need no longer be used. Further stipulations in DIN EN 15085-3 must be complied with.
The endurance strength values contained in this technical code may also be used for the design of laser and electron beam welded joints. As the necessary welds are generally produced using the arc welding process during maintenance or repair work, the possibly higher vibration strength of laser or electron beam welded joints should generally not be taken into consideration.
