Diese Europäische Norm legt die Qualitätsanforderungen an Schmierfette für Wälzlager in Radsatzlagern nach EN 12080 fest, die für einen zuverlässigen Zugbetrieb auf den europäischen Schienennetzen erforderlich sind. Sie beschreibt das Freigabeverfahren für ein noch nicht zugelassenes Schmierfett, das Änderungsmanagement für ein zugelassenes Schmierfett und das Verfahren der Qualitätsprüfung des Schmierfett-Loses. Die Anforderungen an die Schmierfette sind für zwei Lagergeschwindigkeitsklassen angegeben.
