Microbial air pollutants are suspected of transmitting infections and triggering allergies. For certain selected genera and species, there are guide values (see VDI 4250 Part 1 and Part 3).

This standard provides the basis for the validation of the methods for analysis and sampling described in existing standards. This standard describes methods for the production of test bioaerosols as distinct from the planned standard VDI 4258 Part 2, which will describe the calibration and/or validation of measuring methods on the basis of test bioaerosols.

For the generation of test bioaerosols, recommendations are given in the following areas:

• requirements of test bioaerosols and their suitability

• properties and suitability of test bioaerosol generators

• measuring of parameters and quality assurance for the generation of test bioaerosols
