This guide is for builders, designers and planners. It deals with types of retaining walls, soil classification, walls in sloping ground, materials, foundations, construction and - most importantly - safety. NHBC accepts design solutions based on this Good Building Guide. It covers walls to a maximum retained height of 1.725m. Walls of greater height should be designed by an appropriately qualified person.
