This European Standard specifies the general regulations forsafety requirements for cableway installations designed to carrypersons. Supplementary safety requirements for reversible bi-cableaerial ropeways without carrier truck brakes are established in EN12929-2. This Part of the EN 12929 defines general technicalcharacteristics and prescribes design principles and general safetyrequirements. This Part of the EN 12929 does not deal with detailsof operation and maintenance, calculations and detailedrequirements for the manufacture of components. This Part of the EN12929 includes requirements relating to the prevention of accidentsand the protection of workers irrespective of the application ofnational regulations. National regulations of a building orfederal/state nature or which serve to protect particular groups ofpeople remain unaffected. It may not always be possible for alltypes of cableway installation to transport all particular groupsof people (e. g. persons with restricted mobility). The objectiveshould be, however, for a cableway installation to enable thetransportation of the largest possible passenger population. Thisstandard does not apply to cableway installations for thetransportation of goods or to lifts.
