This part of ISO 6966 specifies the minimum general designrequirements applicable to aircraft ground support equipment, asdefined in 3.1, in order to ensure a) definition of aircraft groundsupport equipment general requirements for designers; b) effectiveoperation of aircraft ground support equipment. The requirements ofthis part of ISO 6966 apply to any piece of aircraft ground supportequipment, as defined in 3.1, used on airports. NOTE An informativelist of the most commonly used pieces of ground equipment isprovided in Annex B. This part of ISO 6966 does not provide all thedesign requirements applicable for aircraft ground supportequipment. Other requirements apply, and can be found in separatestandards: ? ISO 6966-2 specifies the safety-related requirementsapplicable to all aircraft ground support equipment; ? ISO 4116specifies the additional requirements applicable for conveyingsurfaces of those pieces of aircraft ground support equipmentintended for handling and loading of baggage and cargo unit loaddevices (ULDs); NOTE In addition, guidelines for efficiency ofconveying surfaces of ground support equipment used to handle aircargo ULDs are provided in Annex A. ? specific standards, listed inthe Bibliography, define the functional and performancerequirements for certain types of aircraft ground supportequipment. This part of ISO 6966 does not apply to unmodifiedgeneral-use transportation vehicles such as automobiles, vans,buses and flat-bed trucks when used on airports.
