TSE - TS EN 62779-2

Semiconductor devices - Semiconductor interface for human body communication - Part 2: Characterization of interfacing performances

active, Most Current
Organization: TSE
Publication Date: 9 December 2016
Status: active
ICS Code (Semiconductor devices in general): 31.080.01
scope:

This part of IEC 62779 defines a measurement method onelectrical performances of an electrode that composes asemiconductor interface for human body communication (HBC). In themeasurement method, a signal transmitter is electrically isolatedfrom a signal receiver, so an isolation condition between thetransmitter and receiver is maintained to accurately measure theelectrode?s performances. This part includes general and functionalspecifications of the measurement method. HBC uses the body of auser as a transmission medium using near-field coupling inside thebody: a signal transmitter and receiver are coupled with each otherthrough a near field that is formed inside the human body and air.The intensity of the near field is strong especially inside thebody due to high dielectric constant of the body, so a data signalis transmitted through the human body by modulating the near field.A signal transmitter and receiver for HBC include an internalground respectively, and, in most HBC applications, the grounds areseparated from each other as maintaining the coupling conditionthrough the air. Quality of a data transmission strongly depends ona coupling degree between the grounds; hence, it is important tomaintain the coupling degree between grounds of a signaltransmitter and receiver for an accurate measurement of theelectrode?s performances. This part defines a measurement method tomeasure electrical performances of an electrode while the couplingdegree between grounds of a signal transmitter and receiver ismaintained. NOTE 1 HBC semiconductor interface consists of anelectrode and analog front end. NOTE 2 General analog and digitalmodulation techniques can be used to modulate a near field used inHBC, and a modulation technique to be used is determined accordingto required performances for a data transmission and a HBCapplication.
