scope:

This Standard deals with the significant hazards, hazardoussituations and events relevant for chip and dust extraction systemsfor fixed installation and for connection with machines for workingon solid wood (including hard wood), wood-based materials andwood-like materials, when they are used as intended and under theconditions foreseen by the manufacturer, including reasonablyforeseeable misuse. This Standard deals also with the technicalrequirements to minimize the hazards in connection with thetemporary storage of wood dust, chips and shavings in a silo, binor container including charging and discharge systems. ThisEuropean standard does not apply to: a) chip and dust extractionsystems with filters installed indoors (covered by prEN 16770); b)extraction equipment (e.g. extraction hoods, ducts) within awoodworking machine including the outlet to which the extractionsystem is connected; c) chip and dust extraction systems designedfor KST values above 200 bar ms-1; d) mechanical conveying systemsbetween filter and storage facility; e) extraction systems andconveying systems with underpressure below 0,3 bar or overpressureabove 0,3 bar; f) storage devices for pressed wood products (e.g.pellets) and humid shavings. Requirements for containers are notdealt with in this standard. This Standard is not applicable tomachines which are manufactured before the date of its publicationas EN.
