scope:

This standard specifies a method for non-destructivemeasurements of the thickness of non-magnetizable coatings onmagnetizable base metals. The measurements are tactile andnon-destructive on typical coatings. The probe or an instrumentwith integrated probe is placed directly on the coating to bemeasured. The coating thickness is displayed on the instrument. Inthis standard the term ?coating? is used for material such as, forexample, paints and varnishes, electroplated coatings, enamelcoatings, plastic coatings, powder coatings, claddings. NOTE Thismethod can also be applied to the measurement of magnetizablecoatings on non-magnetizable base metals or other materials (seeISO 2361).
