This Standard specifies general requirements for the design,construction, and selection of guards provided to protect personsfrom mechanical hazards. This Standard indicates other hazards thatcan influence the design and construction of guards. This Standardapplies to guards for machinery which will be manufactured after itis published. The requirements are applicable if fixed and movableguards are used. This International Standard does not coverinterlocking devices. These are covered in ISO 14119. This Standarddoes not provide requirements for special systems relatingspecifically to mobility such as ROPS (rollover protectivestructures), FOPS (falling-object protective structures), and TOPS(tip over protective structures) or to the ability of machinery tolift loads.
