TSE - TS EN 62484

Radiation protection instrumentation - Spectroscopy-based portal monitors used for the detection and identification of illicit trafficking of radioactive material

active, Most Current
Organization: TSE
Publication Date: 29 April 2016
Status: active
ICS Code (Radiation protection): 13.280
scope:

This International Standard specifies the operational andperformance requirements for spectroscopy-based portal monitorsused for the detection and identification of illicit trafficking ofradioactive material. Spectroscopy-based portal monitors have theability to detect gamma and neutron radiation and identifygamma-emitting radionuclides that may be present in or on persons, vehicles, containers, or packages in a static or transient mode ofoperation. Operational requirements established by this standardinclude radiation detection and gamma-emitting radionuclideidentification, and those requirements associated with the expectedelectrical, mechanical, and environmental conditions when a portalmonitor is deployed. The object of this standard is to establishperformance requirements and to give examples of acceptable testmethods, and to specify general characteristics, general testconditions, radiation characteristics, electrical safety, andenvironmental characteristics to determine if a portal monitormeets the requirements of this standard. Special applications, which may include a monitor?s operation under weather conditions orfor detection needs not addressed by this standard, shall requireadditional testing. Obtaining operating performance that meets orexceeds the specifications as stated in this standard depends uponproperly installing the monitor, establishing appropriate operatingparameters, providing security for the monitor, maintainingcalibration, implementing a suitable response testing andmaintenance program, auditing compliance with quality requirements, and providing proper training for operating personnel.
