This European Standard specifies performance levels and testmethods for the following characteristics of slide fasteners madefrom interlocking components mounted on tapes: strengths of pullerattachment, closed-end, top stop, open-end slide fastener box,reciprocating mechanism, closed slide fastener when extendedlaterally, open-end attachment when extended laterally, sliderlocking device, and open-end slide fastener single stringer sliderretention and slider resistance to torque. NOTE The tests specifiedin Annexes B to K have been specifically devised to permit theirdirect application to finished slide fasteners with a view togiving the user reasonable assurance that a slide fastenerconforming to the requirements of this standard can satisfactorilyfulfil its intended purpose. Annex L gives information aboutsampling procedures for bulk quantities of slide fasteners. Inaddition, performance levels are also specified for colour fastnessto washing, dry cleaning and water, and for dimensional stabilityto washing and dry cleaning. This European Standard is applicableto slide fasteners for general use and is not applicable to slidefasteners for specialist purposes (for example: pressure sealedslide fasteners for diving suits).
