This International Standard provides the principles andrequirements for type III environmental declarations (EPD) ofbuilding products. This International Standard containsspecifications and requirements for the EPD of building products.Where this International Standard contains more specificrequirements, it complements ISO 14025 for the EPD of buildingproducts. This International Standard provides a framework for andthe basic requirements for product category rules (PCR) as definedin ISO 14025 for type III environmental declarations of buildingproducts. Type III environmental declarations for buildingproducts, as described in this International Standard, areprimarily intended for use in business-to-business communication,but their use in business-to-consumer communication under certainconditions is not precluded. This International Standard does notdefine requirements for developing type III environmentaldeclaration programmes. Requirements for type III environmentaldeclaration programmes are found in ISO 14025. The workingenvironment is not included in this International Standard becauseit is normally a subject for national legislation. NOTE In thisInternational Standard, EPD is an abbreviation used to representboth the single and plural full form designation of ?environmentalproduct declaration?, which is intended to be synonymous with thedesignation ?type III environmental declaration?. In the practiceof developing EPD, programmes or their declarations are referred toby various names such as eco-leaf, eco-profile, environmentaldeclaration of product, environmental product declaration (EPD),and environmental profile.
