scope:

1.1 This standard specifies rules for designating steels bymeans of symbolic letters and numbers to express application andprincipal characteristics, e.g. mechanical, physical, chemical, soas to provide an abbreviated identification of steels. NOTE In theEnglish language the designations covered by this standard areknown as ?steel names?; in the French language as ?designationsymbolique?; in the German language as ?Kurznamen?. 1.2 Thisstandard applies to steels specified in standards (EN), TechnicalSpecifications (TS), Technical Reports (TR) and CEN member'snational standards. 1.3 These rules may be applied tonon-standardized steels. 1.4 A system of numerical designation ofsteels known as steel numbers is specified in EN 10027-2.
