Purpose of This Order.
This order explains how to provide type certification and related technical services for military commercial derivative aircraft (MCDA).
The procedures in this order are unique for MCDA certification projects, including changes to approved type designs, for aircraft, engines, and propellers. We are supplementing FAA Orders 8110.4, Type Certification, and 8130.2, Airworthiness Certification of Aircraft and Related Products, for standard type certification. Use this order plus Orders 8110.4 and 8130.2 for MCDA projects unless we specify otherwise.
MCDA are procured and operated by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security, and United States Coast Guard. DoD is the armed services of the United States and includes the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force.
