This International Standard establishes five modes of operationfor applications of an n-bit block cipher (e.g. protection of datatransmission, data storage). The defined modes only provideprotection of data confidentiality. Protection of data integrityand requirements for padding the data are not within the scope ofthis International Standard. Also most modes do not protect theconfidentiality of message length information.
