This European Standard applies to passenger body side entrancesystems of all newly designed railway vehicles such as tram, metro,suburban, mainline and high-speed trains that carry passengers. Therequirements of this European Standard also apply to existingvehicles undergoing refurbishment of the door equipment, as far asit is reasonably practicable. This European Standard also specifiesthe requirements for testing of entrance systems. This EuropeanStandard makes reference to manual and power operated entrancesystems. For manual doors, clauses referring to power operation arenot applicable. This European Standard does not apply to thefollowing:- entrance systems for equipment access, inspection ormaintenance purposes and for crew only use; - doors on freightwagons; and; - doors or hatches specifically provided for escapeunder emergency conditions.
