TSE - TS EN 50121-5

Railway applications - Electromagnetic compatibility - Part 5: Emission and immunity of fixed power supply installations and apparatus

active, Most Current
Organization: TSE
Publication Date: 23 October 2015
Status: active
ICS Code (Railway engineering in general): 45.020
ICS Code (Electric traction equipment): 29.280
ICS Code (Electrical engineering in general): 29.020
scope:

This European Standard applies to emission and immunity aspectsof EMC for electrical and electronic apparatus and systems intendedfor use in railway fixed installations for power supply. Thisincludes the power feed to the apparatus, the apparatus itself withits protective control circuits, trackside items such as switchingstations, power autotransformers, booster transformers, substationpower switchgear and power switchgear to other longitudinal andlocal supplies. Filters operating at railway system voltage (forexample, for harmonic suppression or power factor correction) arenot included in this standard since each site has specialrequirements. Filters would normally have separate enclosures withseparate rules for access. If electromagnetic limits are required, these will appear in the specification for the equipment. Thelimits in this standard do not apply to intentional communicationsignals. The frequency range considered is from DC to 400 GHz. Nomeasurements need to be performed at frequencies where norequirement is specified. Emission and immunity limits are givenfor items of apparatus which are situated: a) within the boundaryof a substation which delivers electric power to a railway; b)beside the track for the purpose of controlling or regulating therailway power supply, including power factor correction; c) alongthe track for the purpose of supplying electrical power to therailway other than by means of the conductors used for contactcurrent collection, and associated return conductors. Included arehigh voltage feeder systems within the boundary of the railwaywhich supply substations at which the voltage is reduced to therailway system voltage; d) beside the track for controlling orregulating electric power supplies to ancillary railway uses. Thiscategory includes power supplies to marshalling yards, maintenancedepots and stations; e) various other non-traction power suppliesfrom railway sources which are shared with railway traction. Theimmunity levels given in this standard apply for vital equipmentsuch as protection devices; equipment having connections to thetraction power conductors; apparatus inside the 3 m zone; ports ofapparatus inside the 10 m zone with connection inside the 3 m zone;ports of apparatus inside the 10 m zone with cable length > 30m. Apparatus and systems which are in an environment which can bedescribed as residential, commercial or light industry, even whenplaced within the physical boundary of the railway substation, shall comply with the relevant generic European EMC standard.Excluded from the immunity requirements of this standard is powersupply apparatus which is intrinsically immune to the tests definedin Tables 1 to 6 of this standard. NOTE An example is an 18 MVA 230kV to 25 kV power supply transformer. - 7 - EN 50121-5:2015 Thesespecific provisions are to be used in conjunction with the generalprovisions in EN 50121-1. This part of the standard coversrequirements for both apparatus and fixed installations. Thesections for fixed installations are not relevant for CEmarking.
