scope:
This International Standard specifies requirements for theGeothermal Response Test (GRT). This test comprises the in situdetermination of the thermal conductivity in saturated andunsaturated soil and rock in a heat exchanger installed in aborehole. For this test, liquid heat transfer media not subjectedto phase changes are used. The thermal conductivity is an importantparameter used in the design of thermal storage and thermalexchange systems. A Geothermal Response Test measures thetemperature response to a thermal energy forcing of a borehole heatexchanger (BHE) or the extraction of thermal energy from aborehole. The temperature response is related to the thermalparameters of the ground and borehole filling material, such asthermal conductivity and borehole resistivity, and is thereforeused to obtain estimated or derived values of these parameters. This International Standard applies to heat exchangers installed invertical or inclined boreholes with length up to e.g. 400 m andwith a diameter of up to 200 mm.
