This Technical Report provides recommendations for DC reversiblesubstations. These recommendations apply to systems and componentsthat facilitate the flow of energy to and from the upstream AC gridincluding their related interfaces. These recommendations providethe necessary functions for the recovery of braking energy. It isintended to be used in fixed electrical installations with nominalvoltage not exceeding 3 000 V DC which supply electrical power tovehicles used in public guided transport systems, i.e. railwayvehicles, tramway vehicles, underground vehicles and trolley-busesIt is intended to provide an overview of state-of-the-artapplications, define the minimum recommendations that are presentlyavailable, and provide functional recommendations to be applied tothese substations. This document focuses mainly on the substationconverters and the traction transformers. Other devices such asswitchgear - if they are the same as in classic substations - arenot addressed here. Moreover this specification addressesperformance, constraints, validation and acceptance criteria forthe implementation of reversible substations. This documentprovides the minimum recommendations to be fulfilled. However, dueto the different possible solutions and different types of existingtechnologies, this document does not provide technicalspecifications of the basic components that facilitate thefunctionalities described.
