scope:

This standard describes an iterative process for managing andexecuting software maintenance activities. Use of this standard isnot restricted by size, complexity, criticality, or application ofthe software product. This standard uses a process model to discussand depict each phase of software maintenance. The criteriaestablished apply to both the planning of maintenance for softwarewhile under development, as well as the planning and execution ofsoftware maintenance activities for existing software products.Ideally, maintenance planning should begin during the stage ofplanning for software development.
