This part of IEC 60958 specifies the format for coding audioused for the audio content. Together with IEC 60958-1, IEC60958-4-2, and IEC 60958-4-4, it specifies an interface for serialdigital transmission of two channels of periodically sampled andlinearly represented digital audio data from one transmitter to onereceiver. It is expected that the audio data will have been sampledat any of the sampling frequencies recognized by AES5. Thecapability of the interface to indicate other sample rates does notimply that it is recommended that equipment support these rates. Toeliminate doubt, equipment specifications should define supportedsampling frequencies.
