scope:

This standard specifies the general principles required for leakdetection by acoustic emission testing (AT). It is addressed to theapplication of the methodology on structures and components, wherea leak flow as a result of pressure differences appears andgenerates acoustic emission (AE). It describes phenomena of the AEgeneration and influence of the nature of fluids, shape of the gap,wave propagation and environment. The different applicationmethods, instrumentation and presentation of AE results isdiscussed. Also included are guidelines for the preparation ofapplication documents which describe specific requirements for theapplication of the AE method. Different application examples aregiven. Unless otherwise specified in the referencing documents, theminimum requirements of this International Standard areapplicable.
