scope:
Deals with the safety of electric oral hygiene appliances for househols and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. Examples of appliances covered by this standard are oral irrigators and toothbrushes.
This standard however, in general, does not take into account the use of appliances by
- persons (including children) whose
* physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or
* lack of experience and knowledge
prevent them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;
- children playing with the appliance.
