Applicability and Scope.

This instruction applies to all active duty and full time support (FTS) service members. This instruction is limited to the delivery of health care approved by DON and clarifies the provisions of reference (a) as it pertains to IDCs. Reference (b) must be used to initiate the DFC process and reference (c) must be used to request removal of NEC for cause.

Purpose.

To update Department of the Navy (DON) policy for training, certifying, employing, and supervising of Independent Duty Hospital Corpsmen (IDC) Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) codes: HM-8402 Submarine Force IDC, HM-8403 Special Operations IDC, HM-8425 Surface Force IDC, and HM-8494 Deep Sea Diving IDC. This instruction has been administratively revised and must be read in its entirety.
