Scope and Applicability
a. This instruction is applicable to naming a structure or building that is identified by a real property unique identifier or a street. Naming designations of internal portions of buildings or spaces can be assigned at the discretion of the installation commander. These command designations will not be identified by name in official Navy correspondence.
b. This instruction applies to all Navy regions, installations, activities, and Navy and non- Navy tenants on Navy installations. For joint bases, requests for the naming of facilities and structures will comply with the policy of the supporting command.
Purpose
a. To issue policy and procedures for the naming of streets, facilities, and structures including personnel support facilities and areas, after persons.
b. This revision includes updates to routing and endorsement actions; requires information regarding disciplinary and criminal history of nominees; and directs installation commanders to develop and maintain a list of streets, facilities, and structures named after persons. This instruction is a complete revision and should be reviewed in its entirety.
