scope:

This standard specifies the requirements for the installation and testing of all kinds and sizes of illuminated signs with a no-load rated output-voltage up to 1 000 V, including the electrical components and wiring. This standard covers installations used for signs, light-artworks and decorative purposes. These installations may be either fixed or portable, supplied from a low-voltage or extra-low-voltage source by means of a transformer, inverter, converter ballast or similar equipment. If the sign is assembled in a factory the relevant product standard applies. If the sign is assembled on site, this standard shall be applied. As there is no product standard at the moment, this standard refers to several safety related parameters which may be transferred to a product standard or standards at a later date. NOTE 1 - For example: Hot-cathode-fluorescent-lamps, luminous-discharge tubes (neon-tubes), inductive discharge lamps, light emitting diodes (LED) and LED modules are used as light-sources. NOTE 2 - For luminaires for cold cathode tubular discharge lamps (neon tubes) and similar equipment operating on a noload rated output voltage over 1.000 V but not exceeding 10.000 V, the relevant standard is EN 60598-2-14.
