This document defines the process for instructing, recording and reporting the findings of examinations, inspections and assessments on Buildings & Architecture structures & fabric at the following property types:
a) Stations
b) Lineside buildings (critical, non-critical and redundant)
c) Light maintenance depots
d) Maintenance delivery units
e) Route Services depots
The examination, inspection and assessment processes specify the types of examination that will form the regime and the frequency. These include:
a) inspection for assessment
b) assessment
c) detailed examinations
d) visual examinations
e) additional examinations
f) reactive reporting
g) hidden critical elements (HCEs)
The following Buildings & Architecture structures & fabric are included in this business process:
a) Platforms
b) Footbridges
c) Platform canopies
Purpose
This document provides detail on the process to instruct and review examinations, inspections and assessments to enable understanding of asset condition and identify risk to the safe operation of railway infrastructure associated with Buildings & Architecture structures & fabric.

It outlines the process to identify condition, highlight and decide the course of action for defects that might affect the structural integrity or use of Buildings & Architecture structures & fabric.
The process outlined in this document helps manage the following risks:
a) loss of safe environment
b) slips, trips and falls at building assets
c) train collision due to failure of building asset.
