VDI/VDE 5570 BLATT 4

Testing of connectorised and non-connectorised polymer optical fibres (POF) - Power budget

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 January 2018
Status: active
Page Count: 12
ICS Code (Fibres and cables): 33.180.10
scope:

This standard describes the power budgets of optical transmission links made up of polymer optical fibres. These budgets take into account, for example, not only the properties of the polymer optical fibres but also the behaviour of transmitters, connectors and receivers. Here the spectral behaviour is taken into account, as are also temperature dependencies and ageing effects.

With the aid of the power budget analysis it is possible to design systems which have sufficient reserves to ensure safe operation over the period of planned utilization. The standard thus provides guidance in the selection of suitable polymer optical fibres and other components for optical transmission links.
