This International Standard specifies requirements to plan, establish, implement, operate, monitor, review, maintain, and provide a documented FM management system within the context of managing an organization's operational activities and risks. The requirements specified in this International Standard are non-sector specific and intended to be applicable to all organizations, or parts thereof, whether public or private sector, and regardless of the type, size, and nature of the organization or geographical location. The extent of application of these requirements depends on the organization's operating environment and complexity. This would also be influenced by the scale as well as and diversity of geographical location where such a standard would have immense benefits. The standard can be applied to both insourced and outsourced service provision of FM. It is not the intent of this International Standard to imply uniformity in the structure of an FM management system, but for an organization to design a system that is appropriate to its needs and that meets its interested parties' requirements. These needs are shaped by legal, regulatory, organizational and industry requirements, the products and services, the processes and activities employed, the size and structure of the organization, and the requirements of its interested parties. This International Standard is applicable to any organization that wishes to:
- a) establish, implement, maintain, and improve an FM management system;
- b) assure itself of conformity with its stated management policy;
- c) demonstrate conformity with this International Standard by:
- 1) making a self-determination and self-declaration, or
- 2) seeking confirmation of its conformance by parties having an interest in the organization, such as customers, or
- 3) seeking confirmation of its self-declaration by a party external to the organization, or
- 4) seeking certification/regist
