Introduction

This Track Work Instruction covers how to install gauge management shims within Full Depth Vertical S&C containing BPV series baseplates. The installation of shims shall only be used as a temporary measure to restore gauge. Inserting shims puts more strain on the stock rail bolts. Repairs to permanently restore gauge and remove the shims shall be planned

The fitting of gauge management shims is only permitted in switches where the linespeed is 40mph or less. They shall only be installed on blockless slide baseplates (marked 'BPV') within full depth switches.
