Introduction
This Track Work Instruction covers the situation where there is heavy sidewear and a need to replace a short piece of rail - such as between points 'A' and 'B' in the photograph. This could happen if it was necessary to remove a rail defect or replace an IBJ. This will require the railhead profile of the new rail to be 'blended' to that of the existing rail. A B
