This Recommendation relates to fixed capacitors designed essentially for d.c. with a rated voltage not exceeding 6300V, using as dielectric either paper or paper combined with a plastic film. The electrodes are either thin metal foils or thin layers deposited on the dielectric. In the latter case, the capacitor shall exhibit no self-healing breakdown in the endurance test. To establish uniform requirements for judging the electrical, mechanical and climatic properties of capacitors, to describe test methods and to give recommendations for standard dimensions and classification into categories according to their ability to withstand conditions as specified in IEC Publication 68.
