NEN 6497

Water - Determination of the consumption of acid and base and the buffer capacity

inactive, Most Current
Organization: NEN
Publication Date: 1 November 1983
Status: inactive
Page Count: 4
ICS Code (Examination of physical properties of water): 13.060.60
scope:

This standard describes methods for the determination of the consumption of acid and base of water. Also an indication is given how to estimate the buffer capacity of the water at the same time. The standard applies to all kinds of water, except those with a very small concentration of acid and base, such as e.g. rainwater. The lower limit of the determination is ca. 0.1 mmol/l and the upper limit 25 mmol/l. The pH of the end point of the titration must preferably be chosen in such a way that it is in the range, where the buffer capacity is small.
