scope:
This standard describes a method for the determination of the sulfur content of petroleum and petroleum products. The standard is applicable to the determination of the sulfur content in petroleum products, such as doped lubricating oils, dope concentrates and greases. The method is applicable to any product that contains at least 0.1% (m/m) sulfur and is volatile to the extent that it can be weighed in a small open cup. The method is nto applicable to samples that contain elements that disturb in the determination of sulphates through the formation of a sediment, insoluble in undiluted hydrochloric acid, other than barium sulphate. Disturbing elements are iron, aluminium, silicon and lead. Other substances, indiluble in acid, that disturb are silicates molybderum disulphides, asbestos, mica, etc.
