This European Standard specifies mechanical safety requirements and their verification for the design and construction of electric powered hand-held scissor type grass shears, with a cutting width of not more than 200 mm, and used primarily for cutting grass. It describes methods for the elimination or reduction of hazards arising from the use of the grass shear. Additionally, it specifies the type of information to be provided by the manufacturer on safe working practices. This standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to grass shears, when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer It is not applicable to environmental hazards (except noise) or EMC. The electrical aspects are not included in this document. The electrical safety aspects of battery powered grass shears will be covered by a standard presently under development by CLC/TC 61F. This document is not applicable to grass shears which are manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.
