This device template is compliant with the UPnP Device Architecture, Version 1.0. This document defines the REQUIRED ROOT device urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:WLANAccessPointDevice. The WLANAccessPointDevice encapsulates services for the Access Point Device Control Protocol (DCP). The Wireless LAN (WLAN) Access Point (AP) is a device that implements the IEEE 802.11 (a, b, g) wireless standards to provide an 'infrastructure' network for home or small business. The device definition does not include access point usage in 'hotspots' or enterprise networks. The AP acts as an Ethernet bridge that enables attachment of multiple nodes to a LAN. Figure 1a shows a common topology used for a network with WLAN access point. Figure 1b shows use of access point as a way to extend the reach of a local area network. The DCP covers both the cases.
