This standard applies to internal fuses used to protect shunt capacitors in accordance with IEC Publication 70, Power capacitors. This standard also applies to internal overpressure disconnectors used to protect self-healing metallized dielectric capacitors in accordance with IEC Publication 70A, First Supplement: Self-healing Metallized Power Capacitors. Fuses and disconnectors conforming to this standard are designed to isolate faulted capacitor elements or capacitor unit, to allow operation of the remaining parts of that capacitor unit and the bank in which the capacitor unit is connected. Such fuses and disconnectors are not a substitute for a switching device such as a circuit-breaker, or the external protection of the capacitor bank, or part thereof.
