Gives guidance on writing the technical specification for the procurement of generators. The object of this guide is to make an intending Purchaser aware of options and alternatives which he may wish to consider, and to enable to state the requirements in a comprehensive manner to potential Suppliers with the object of achieving an integrated power installation, ensuring compatibility with contracts for other plant items and fully meeting the requirements of European legislation designed to promote the Single Market. This standard is applicable to the actions of both Purchasers and Suppliers and indicates to potential Purchasers how requirements should be stated so that: a) the generator type and capacity interfaces with other elements of the turbine plant and electrical system; b) reliability, availability and safety requirements are achieved; d) proper consideration is given to the evaluation process and the quality measures to be applied. The equipment covered by this guide is related to its function rather than design type. Therefore, the generator plant requirements are stated in performance terms rather than being specified by a detailed description of the equipment to be supplied. This guide is applicable to turbine-driven generators and their auxiliairies, as specified in section 5, for use in power plants. The generator may be air, hydrogen, or liquid-cooled. The excitation system may be of the static or rotating rectifier type fed by a static or rotating power supply.
