Applies to d.c. machines and to a.c. synchronous and induction machines. The principles can be applied to other types of machines such as rotary converters, a.c. commutator motors and single-phase induction motors for which other methods of determining losses are used. The first supplement describes methods to determine the efficiency of electrical rotating machines either by determination of the total losses on load or by determination of the segregated losses for air and water cooling mediums. Note: Methods of loss determination have been devised mainly for large generators, but the principles, used can also be applied to other machines.
