scope:
The FND is a communication protocol for building automation and control systems on the management net level. It is used for data transmission between a central station and one or more autonomous islands of automation stations. The standard specifies the interface of the central station and the island of automation stations for communication with each other. The network used for internetworking these systems is not part of this standard. The communications objects defined in this standard correspond to the basic functions of building automation and control systems. Therefore the information needed by the central station is available from automatic stations even if the vendors of the different systems are not identical.
