scope:
This standard describes a method for the evaluation of the hardness of layers of paint or varnish by means of a pendulum. The standard is applicable to the examination of layers of paint and paint-layer systems with a smooth surface, applied to a flat, stiff surface, preferably on glass. The method cannot be applied to layers with an irregular surface, and also it can not be applied to layers that are so smooth that the pendulum does not stay in its place during the test.
