Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components - Basic test and measurement procedures - Part 3-40: Examinations and measurements - Extinction ratio of a polarization maintaining (pm) fibre pigtailed connector

active, Most Current
Organization: NEN
Publication Date: 1 May 1998
Status: active
Page Count: 28
ICS Code (Fibre optic interconnecting devices): 33.180.20
scope:

Describes the procedure to measure the ability of an optical fibre connector to maintain a given extinction ratio across the connection in pm fibre. In this test we limit the measurement to the most common case of nearly polarized light propagating in pm fibre. The term "extingtion ratio" used here refers to the proprtion of light propagating in the two orthogonal polarization axes of the fibre and is more properly defined as "polarization crosstalk". "Extinction ratio" is the commonly used term.
