This standard describes a method to determine the diacetyl (butadion 2,3) content of butter and butter-oil (method of Pien). This method requires an ultaviolet spectrophotometer. If it is not available the determination can be performed in accordance with the mthod of Prill and Hammer (see NEN 3715).
