This standard is applicable to bogies and running gear intended for vehicles that will operate on the under the Interoperability Directives on designated TEN routes. However, the requirements may be appropriate for other applications that have similar operational conditions. It specifies the principles and processes to be followed to achieve a satisfactory design of bogie or running gear and to validate the design against the relevant performance and safety requirements. The standard does not specify detailed technical requirements but identifies the nature and content of an auditable record that must be produced of the design and validation processes involving the operator, customer, supplier, approval body and infrastructure controller.The requirements address only the design and validation of the functional and safety aspects of bogies and running gear whose provision falls within the responsibility of the supplier. They also apply only to the bogie/ running gear itself. No requirements are set for other systems components that are attached to it, except to establish that a satisfactory interface has been provided.
