The present European Prestandard defines a destructive method of assessing the case-hardening of a piece of sawn timber with reference to the distortion measured in a slice taken from the piece. This European Prestandard is applicable to sawn timber and timber which has been planed or surfaced by other means. It applies to both hardwood and softwood with a thickness not greater than 100 mm.
