Applies to all machinery (stationary and mobile) where fixed means of access are necessary. This standard applies particularly to access which are an integral part of a machine. This standard also applies to means of access to machinery that are part of the building where the machines is installed in the case where specific standards or national regulations do not exist. This is particularly true of industrial plants comprising large groups of machines running as one set, such as power plants, paper mills, steelworks, saxmills, petro-chemical industries...This standard applies also to access means which are not permanently fixed to the machines and which may be removed or moved to the side for some operations of the machine (e.g. changing of the felt of the paper making machine). This standard does not apply to lifts or to movable elevating platforms specially designed to lift persons or to other special devices.
