This DS-information gives guidelines for the selection and use of glass in buildings regarding personal safety and specifies types of safetyglass and hazard areas. At changes of levels, roofs, ceilings and in eaves the following safety requirements are valid in all buildings.
Glass where persons may collide with by activitties in or around buildings should:
- resist the load without breaking into pieces; and
- if it breaks it should cause as little injury as possible to persons, or
- should be marked and protected against direct contact with persons.
Safety glass is used in exposed areas, where persons can collide with glass, e.g. into doors, sideinfill next to doors, into low mounted windows and into glasspartitions, glass on balconies, rails and balustrades. .
Where glass takes part in the indoor design this is also included in the guidelines.
This is applicable when the glass is a part of for instance walls and partitions in bathrooms etc. It is a condition, that these glass constructions can be considered as a part of the building.
The guideline do not comprises the following:
Glass constructions which are not a permanent part of the building and not defined as building glass, as e.g. loose furniture.
Glass floors and stairs of glass.
Glass in lifts (reference to national regulator: Danish Working Environment Authority)
Glazing assembly conditions.
Strenght dimensioning for loads on constructions.
